The Bone Thief by Vanessa Lillie
Not every book is every audiences cup of tea. Vanessa Lillie does a tremendous job incorporating cultural identity into her books. This is the second book in the series following, Blood Sisters. It took me several chapters to really get into the book because it was as if the book started in the middle of a different story.
I did enjoy the book, but I didn't really get to know more about the characters. I like stories that really have more internal dialogue. In all honesty it was a big letdown after reading the first book which ultimately would lead me to not recommend reading the second book.
The plot itself is fabulous. Personally, as a reader, I just need more connection to the characters. I would write this book a 2.9 out of 5 stars. I don't usually give low ratings to books. I feel like authors, put their heart and soul into their writing so they deserve to have some recognition. Writing is such a personal thing to begin with and have someone judge you could possibly be devastating. I do think the author truly got her purpose across to her audience, though. I was thinking about all the museums I had been to that had a display of bones of ancient ancestors. I never thought about it like this before, but now I think about how those bones are sacred to those families. Those bones are not artifacts, they are real people, and their families deserve the right to bury them in the manner in which they see fit.
