Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

This review is in no way bashing this book, but this book was just not my cup of tea. I felt like chapters were disconnected from the previous ones and organizational strategies were done haphazardly. And for some parts of the book, it kind of reads like a textbook. I would not recommend read this book unless you are a history buff.

To be fair, it could've been the narration that ruined the book for me. The lady who starts narrating the first half of the book should be a children's author of happy stories. Her expression during reading each chapter seemed overly joyous and happy when in fact this book is dark and grim. It just seemed inappropriate to use such a chipper voice for such a harrowing tail. The gentleman who finished the second half of the book, the narration was fabulous.

My heart ached for the Osage people as I listened to each chapter. So many people were taking advantage of and never really got justice for what was done to them. Greed seemed to what fuel most of the death that occurred. As always, when money is involved, people only think of themselves and not the harm that they are doing to others. I was absolutely angry that people got away with poisoning in indigenous populations, just in order to take their money. I know that a lot of research must've went into this book in order for it to be finished. The narrator just ruined the first half of the book for me. I feel if I could go back and read it in person instead of listening to it on audible I might have actually like this book. If I was rating the narrators, I would give the first narrator, a one out of five stars. The gentleman who finish the book would definitely get a five out of five. The overall book for me could've just been so much more. I would write the book overall a 2.5 out of five stars. I just need more connection to the characters.

This book was a second runner-up for our November book club. I can definitely see why it did not get first place and I'm glad it didn't. I would have hated to have had a conversation with my peers about the content in this book. I could not keep focus or interest in it. Hopefully audible will not use narration like this in the near future.
