Anticipation for Knoxville Zoo
My family never really leaves our small decrepit town, so tomorrow Mom and I are taking a trip to Knoxville. I mentioned this to my grandmother today, which was a huge mistake. Evidently, there are thieves over there and I will get robbed. Come on people! Like most locals, she has the belief that anywhere but here is a "BAD" place to be. Grandma was only ridiculing me about wasting money and not thinking about the future. I love her to death, but sometimes I've got to get out of R'ville. Even dad has been in a bad mood too!
I'm super excited and I cannot wait to get up in the morning. I have packed my bag twice to double check. It will be a two hour drive, but I'm more than willing to get up. I have been charging my camera and smiling all afternoon. It took me hours to convince mom to go too. She doesn't really like to get out and explore. I asked, "mom, I know you don't really ever get out, but I really want to go to the zoo on my Spring Break. Will you please go with me?" I had to beg and give her the "sad eyes."
While most people prefer to stay here and not go on small adventures, I am the one who wants to go out to explore our neighboring states and to see what is out there. Sometimes I wish we had more to offer. I found out today that our one and only plant will be closing in sixty days. This is going to ruin our small town, and our people will move. We will become a ghost town. Who can afford to live here when we only have one grocery store and four red lights? There will be no jobs and people will be forced to move on. I'm excited about tomorrow, but I'm also worried what is to become of our town.
A friend of mine told me today that she didn't know what they were going to do. Her husband works at the plant and since Stanley's is closing he will not have a job to support his new little family. She is six months pregnant and he is their only income. What will they do? Moving wasn't an option and they will have to let their new car go back to the bank. Hopeless was the only word I could think of to describe her situation.
I will keep you all posted on the situation.
I just hope that our government will see what is going on and come in and bail out Stanley's. There are so many families that will go homeless and helpless. A job is hard to come by and now it will be virtually impossible to get one.
