Literature
Reading is an escape.....
I have one student that told me that today. She is always in a book. When I was younger, and didn't get to go many places, books was my way out. I never got to travel or go on vacations, so as an adult I have took full advantage of both. My mom spent most of my childhood years working, and this afforded us the life we wanted to live, but she never had time for the "extras." We camped as a family, but we never hardly made it over state lines. Literature was my only was to experience what life was like beyond this small town. I would grab a book and head to the field, where I spent most of my time. I would read until mom came to get me in the afternoons.
I have never favored one topic over another, as long as, it had someone sort of sequence about it. Most of my students share my love for reading, and I couldn't be more happier with that. We spend most of our time reading young adult novels dealing with magic, love, and mystery. This year alone my classes have read over four books. Well..... That is almost the truth. I don't read novels with one of my classes due to time constraints and their reading ability.
My favorite book as a child was "Daniel." I cannot remember the author's name, but that was the first book that ever made me cry. I wish everyone had the reading opportunities that was presented to me in school. I'm instructed to use the textbook. I'm not a fan, but with some students the shorter stories work well, but they are usually boring.
