Future

Where do you see yourself in the next ten years? I posed this question to my students in homeroom this morning just to hear their various answers, but then it struck me that I need to have an answer as well. I don't know what the future holds for me and my small family, but there are a few things that I can hope for.

    1. I long to watch my child grow, prosper, and thrive. I hope to be here the day she emerges as a teen and ages into her twenties. In ten years she will only be twelve and I hope she grounded in her own morals. In ten years, I hope she is outspoken and ready to take on middle school.

    2. In ten years, I hope I'm still teaching. I have no idea what subject area. Maybe I will finally start my pathway to earning a doctorate degree? Maybe I'll just be happy with my current status. My goal is to be here long enough to teach my current student's grandkids. Yes, that's an odd goal, but I think it will be a rewarding experience.

    3.  Ten years is a long time away. I can probably see that my current small hobby farm has expanded. We have acres that are untouched that needs to be fenced in. Maybe in ten years that will be completed.

    4. Hopefully, I'll still be married. You never know in a world like ours. I'd like to see us have the house fully finished and maybe have a new barn up. Maybe we took time out and really embraced being a family. I'd like to see more family time in our day to day lives.

    5. In many ways ten years will bring great heartbreak to my life. I don't know if mom will make it that long. I hope I'm strong enough to get through it when she passes. I want to be strong enough for her to emotionally deal with mom's death. I hope I don't have a break down in the process. Mom has always been my constant, even though she didn't always make the most sound decisions. She still deserves my respect for always being in my corner. Most people would have walked away a long time ago.
