Spring Water
Some people are under the assumption that spring water is amazing. Yes, we do not have a well and I do not worry about contamination due to owning all surrounding property. Our fresh water comes from a spring nestled high on our mountain. The was is very crisp and pure to the taste!
The chilling weather last week ended up freezing our water lines that run down to the house. The line is buried beneath 2 feet under the surface. There is only two places where it can possibly freeze and if you leave the water running in the sinks, it doesn't freeze. Early Saturday morning I woke up to find that our water was froze. I had to walk down to the creek and dip water to flush our toilets. Now, for some people this may seem outlandish, but for our area this is common. Bundled up in multiple layers I made the way in the dark down to the creek. I loath this.
The temperature finally reached the high 50s around 3:00 PM. Luckily enough the much welcomed water fixed itself. It's a small inconvenience and annoyance. To be absolutely honest with you all, I would love to have a well installed to avoid instances such as this. This yearly battle is unwelcome and not appreciated. Cold weather is hard enough to deal with, but with this extra layer of chores makes my days longer.
Cleaning the "spring head" is also an unwanted chore. Once a month I have to make the winding journey up the hill to clean out unwelcome mud, critter, and leaves. I carry both a shovel and gun along on this journey. On warmer days I take my toddler along with me. Before you ask I will provide the answer. Yes, our water is clean and has been tested. All our farm animals are in the valley region of our property, so no waste can enter our water.
