Tire Gardens II

Image
This is my current progress in the "tire" garden. I know it isn't what you expected, but it has come a long way.    Currently, I have planted two green bean tires, and one squash.  Hopefully, this futile idea succeeds.        I didn't want to use any special dusting poisons to keep the bugs at bay, but now I'm considering this. I'm somewhat determined to show that I can grow plants.  Its actually funny to hear what my family says.  "She couldn't grow a normal garden, so she took over the back yard!"   This is how all my planting starts out. There are plantable starter pots designed to help make things easier.  You can purchase these at your local dollar store. This way you'll know that the plants have a chance inside before they brave the ridged life outside.

Morning

I have the most fabulous commute to work every morning.   I'm thankful for the time alone!   Singing at the top of my lungs is a great way to start a stressful day!

Mothers are...

They are mentors who guide us through life. They are believers, deceivers, and dreamers. They are the boo boo kissers, and they are the other sisters. Mothers are helping hands who pass on loving traits. Mothers are the ones who open those imaginary gates. Mothers are the peanut butter to your jam. Mothers are the ones who make sure you are glam. They are hand holders, and shrugging shoulders. They are cooks, Who spend hours reading you books. Mothers set examples and follow them through. Mothers are the first to say boo.

Farming in Old Tires

Image
Wow!  This farming season I have decided to use old tires to farm in. I will be showing a progression of this project throughout the summer.  Every year I have tried to be motivated about farming, but the result is the same, failure or lack of interest.  I think my generation has lost touch with reality. We cannot provide for ourselves without grocery stores, and honestly, I think this is our down fall.         I saw this project summer challenge. I live near a junk yard and decided to take it on. Below I have shared my first instillation of hopefully many tires. Unfortunately, being in a small rural town has somewhat limited my resources. I have only located two tires, and will have to resort to using regular car tires.  This is  a green bean patch. I gathered my seeds from my grandma. She saves seeds every year and replants them. The darkened potting soil is a mixture of horse manure ...

Expanding Our Horizons

Image
Horizons?  What a curious word to use, but it truly has little meaning. According to Dictionary.com it means, "the line or circle that forms the apparent boundary between earth and sky." So how does such a word set our standards? What defines us as people? Do we in fact have an "apparent boundary" that I have not seen?                          Horizons could be possible goals or just simply expanding our selves. Our dear sheriff has caused quite an uproar in our small community. Maybe he needs to "expand his horizons" and see that we don't need to be on the local news. I will not comment on his act, but placing an already fragile community in the spot light isn't a good thing. I feel somewhat embarrassed seeing my town on WLOS News 13 for his mistake.          Its a sad ...

The Lazarus Effect

Image
Evan Peters is the only reason I considered watching this movie. I was really disappointed in the overall plot and its lack of a conclusion. Maybe if there was an additional movie the audience would  feel somewhat complete. I was however very happy so see one of my favorite stars in an actual movie rather than on American Horror Story.               Its sad to say such a talented actor on had a few people in the audience. Our theater might have had ten people in total viewing the film. Maybe it was popular in other areas?

Working Out!!

It is to my demise that I haven't been working out. The pain feels so strange to me. My employer provides its employees a room of exorcize equipment and I'm taking full advantage of it. A co-worker and I spent 40 minutes today realizing how lazy we have been!     My small town doesn't really have a gym to offer its meager inhabitants. As always I'm disappointed in the lack of resources that I'm provided. Hopefully our town will grow and start to realize these things.

INSURGENT

Image
I'm so thrilled that there is finally a set of books that I can read with my classes. This book was especially great due to the up coming movie. As a class we read DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth and they were so into it. As long as they are willing to read, I will go to any extent to get the books. I ended saving money from each check to purchase enough copies for my entire class. Our youth today needs to have literature they can associate themselves with. Literature circles is what makes my classes thrive. This is a grade appropriate book that allows my students to do a full character analysis and they have also completed the author's notes that came along with my Ebook that is one my phone.        I have spent my evenings reading ahead of my students and preparing discussion questions. I'm thankful for our snow days, so I had time to fully finish the book. As a reward for reading the book I will be taking my classes out to w...

Being From the OUTSIDE

Fitting in wasn't always easy growing up and now that I'm teaching in a neighboring community I find that I'm truly a stranger. Wow, to be young and not know anyone. I can see that within my own community many "outsiders" always remain so due to the fact that they are different. I feel as if you have to grow up here to fit in. I wonder if I rejected peers because they weren't from here? I would like to think the best, but I doubt I was friendly.       After much complication, I discovered that I'll just have to try harder and make the extra effort to be at all sporting events. This will be my plan for the next few months. I'll keep you posted on the progress.  I want to teach in the community, so I'll try my best!
