A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park
I like to end each school year with a novel study. This year's chosen book was A Long Walk to Water, and it hasn't disappointed me in any way. My students have been absolutely thrilled and excited to read this book. I would have otherwise chosen to end the year with projects. I did accompany this novel with one project.
I would rate this book a 4.5 out of a 5 because I wish the beginning of the book moved faster so my students could get engaged in reading a little sooner. I think the slow start to the book really turns off some readers. We spent time looking at maps of Sudan and studying what revolution is and how that looked during the eighties.
