Unfinished Business 1

Bucket lists used to be a big thing. In high school I remember having to sit in Honors English III making a bucket list. I didn't know then how significant that list would be in my life. I wonder if our teacher knew we would use this list to plan out our lives.  Well, at least it was important to me. Her class was everything that school year. I have whole journal entries about the novels, projects, and daily work that we completed.

One of my best friends didn't make it into the honors class due to health issues. She was forever having to miss school for health related appointments and treatments. I tried not to ask too many questions. Privacy in these situations is key. I think our mutual respect for each other was why she was my best friend. She always accepted me for who I was. I never had to hide anything from her. We shared our bucket lists at lunch and she was super morbid.

"If I live," she kept saying. Her list included thirteen items that will forever be ingrained in my mind. She handed me her list to turn in. I made a copy of it in the library and kept it. Ashley's bucket list was there for me in my early twenties as a guiding path. I took it on myself to finish her list soon after she passed. Her top priority was to walk in graduation and to graduate with top honors. She did that and more. She died my freshman year at WCU. Her list was unfinished. I'm in my thirties now and this is still unfinished business.

I'll be sharing some of her list along the way. Each item is precious to her memory so be kind with your comments.

1. Graduate High School

2. Walk across that stage (ditch the wheelchair)
