Spring
As Spring slowly makes her way over the mountains, we can see the new life she brings with her. This time of year is always busy with new projects and welcoming new life. Today, I'm thankful for clean air to breathe and the sounds coming from my small farm.
The ground has just started breaking as my tulip bulbs are pushing their way to sunlight. I can see the small green stems struggling to make their way up. I'm so excited to see the array of colors this year. I bought some Red Deaths to plant along with purple just before the first snow. The color of the Red Deaths is more of a dark blood red and I couldn't believe I found them in Asheville.
I have two broody chickens sitting on eggs and I'm patently waiting for them to hatch. Baby chicks are always my favorite to watch. Mama our hateful hen has always been the best mom. She will even adopt other orphan chicks. She no longer lays eggs of her own, but she will "adopt" any egg placed under her. Mama is a feisty cross of several types of chickens. She looks so odd with dark legs, white/ creme feathers on her wings, and a set of black tips. No one ever challenges her! Even our rooster, Elvis will run from her.
I will post pictures as the chicks hatch!
