Learning To Start Small

Planning and creative thinking are always a bad combination, especially when I'm involved. My lessons seem okay, but when I go to pick up materials...
With my new classes I think we will learn to define ourselves as writers first and then tackle the grammar. Writing isn't always the most exciting pare of my daily routine, but editing and seeing all the mistakes. Everything we write can only improve when we take a second glance. Starting small will be very hard for my rather large class. They have so many ideas and we have little time to accomplish what we need.

Class time is always a delicate wire that could possible be cut by invisible scissors. I think our first project will be comparing life to a highway or map. I haven't really decided how they are going to present the information, but hopefully between now and Monday the thought will cross my mind. Each place on the map will represent an obstacle in their lives. For some students this project might me hard and will challenge my teaching skills to adapt the material to fit them.

Students will be completing said project in a two week interval that will include, planning, pacing, and creating stages. Every student must come up with unique titles for each event in their lives. For the more advanced students I will also have them find theme music to represent the "road trip" of their lives.
