Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina

Mom and I spent the week in Kill Devil Hills. The coast of North Carolina is one of the best places to relax. The eight-hour drive seemed a little bit extreme, but the relaxation of the crashing waves was calling our names. Normally, we spend months planning our getaways, but this was a last minute decision. We even found an awesome hotel that allowed us to take Buck and Harley with us. This was mom's first trip to the beach, so she was overly excited. We counted down the miles as the GPS helped us reach our destination.
I wasn't so sure about going on a vacation with the dogs. I didn't know how things would work out or if they could be quiet in the room. We found these calming treats that really did the trick! It mellowed both dogs out. I would wake up really early in the morning and walk them for an hour. The beach didn't allow dogs out there before 9am. I made sure they still got their exercise in each day. It was a vacation for them too! Both dogs seemed to really enjoy their time away from home.
If the ocean isn't your thing, the shopping in this area was also amazing. There was a Tanger Outlet near us that offered a plethora of options. The local shops were more than worth their time to coast through as well. There were miles of open beach access that had few tourists. I was really surprised at the lack of people.
We dedicated one complete day to go to the aquarium. I didn't get to document this event due to the fact that we had to take mom's wheel chair. I loved the small aquarium, even with it's overly large alligators. They even had an albino one with a black patch over its left eye. I was not thrilled to be there during feeding time. I didn't realize they could catapult their bodies out of the water.
The John Yancey Ocean Front Inn was a quiet haven that provided a weeks worth of relaxation. This small business offered rooms that were dog friendly and a play area for our fur babies. The breakfast choices could have used some more options, but the staff was super friendly, even when Harley tried to nip one of the maids. Upon leaving, I took one last walk down the desolate beach. I wish all beaches was this calm.
We are already planning on another trip to the coast, but I'm not sure what beach we will end up on! I'll keep you guys posted.
